The type species (lectotype) of the genus Nemastoma is Nemastoma dichotomum J.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Calosiphonia vermicularis (J.Agardh) F.Schmitz.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), worm-shaped, almost cylindrical and bent in places, marked with irregular waves or bent lines (Stearn 1983).
