Taxonomic notes
According to Maggs & Hommersand (1993) Ceramium rubrum (Hudson) C.Agardh is a synonym of this species and not the other way around. Guiry (1997) concurs with this view. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
According to Silva et al., Ducluzeau's account of C. nodulosum makes it clear that he was describing a new species and nowhere did he cite Lightfoot, either directly or indirectly. They also note that he explicitly excluded two species from his concept of C. nodulosum, namely, Conferva rubra Hudson and C. nodulosa Hudson 1778, nom. illeg. - (27 August 2009) - G.M. Guiry
