The type species (holotype) of the genus Chrysococcus is Chrysococcus rufescens Klebs.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Kephyrion ovale (Lackey) Huber-Pestalozzi.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), oval, elliptical, i.e., broadest at the middle, the sides curved and length:breadth generally 2:1 (Stearn 1983).
