Nomenclatural note
"This species, basionym of B. botryoides, was described by Wulfen in Jacquin (1791: 146) from the Adriatic Sea. It was erroneously considered as an illegitimate name by Spencer et al. (2009: 252). In fact, the question mark following the comment "An Fucus Ovarîus sive Uvarius ?" made by Wulfen (op. cit.) when he described his species, is an expression of doubt that doesn't make F. botryoides superfluous according to Art. 52, Note 1 and Ex. 11 of ICN (Turland et al., 2018)."
