Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Delesseria is Delesseria sanguinea (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Caloglossa leprieurii (Montagne) G.Martens.

Type Information
Type locality: Sinnamary, NW of Cayenne, French Guiana; (Lipkin & Silva 2002: 30) Lectotype: F.R. Leprieur; 20 November 1841; PC; FR Leprieur 356 (Womersley 2003: 25) Notes: Yoshida (1998: 967) notes that the type is in herb. Montagne, PC. Isotype: LD 31909-12 (Post, 1936: 52). Kamiya et al. (2003:494) give the following data: French Guiana, near Cayenne (lectotype of C. leprieurii, L0055717). Silva (2004: 556) designated lectotype: mouth of Sinnamary River, French Guiana, Leprieur 356 (PC: Herb. Thuret-Bornet TA 22509/22510). Krayesky et al. (2011: 47) follow the selection of Kamiya et al. (2003) because they maintain it was validly designated.
