The type species (holotype) of the genus Myrionema is Myrionema strangulans Greville.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Stragularia clavata (Harvey) Hamel.

Type locality: [Loch Linnhe, Scotland]; (Athanasiadis 1996: 190) Type: TCD?; Notes: A precise locality was not mentioned by Harvey but Captain Carmichael collections were mostly from Scotland's west coast.

Adjective (Latin), clavate (Stearn 1983).
