The type species (lectotype) of the genus Liagora is Liagora viscida (Forsskål) C.Agardh.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ganonema farinosum (J.V.Lamouroux) K.-C.Fan & Yung C.Wang.

Type Information
Type locality: "Aux environs de Suez , dans la Mer rouge. Ded. Delile." [Suez, Red Sea, Egypt]; (Lamouroux 1816: 240) Lectotype: CN; (Yoshida 1998: 511) Notes: Dawson (1953: 43) incorrectly cites type locality as Haha-zima and Titi-zima, Ogasawara Islands, Japan. Type was illustrated by Abbott (Cryptogamie, Algologie, 11: fig. 23).
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), mealy, covered with farina (flour-like, powdery covering) (Stearn 1983).

This is a marine species.
Habitat
Tropical and subtropical seas, extending into warm temperate regions (Womersley 1994: 96).
