The type species (holotype) of the genus Antithamnion is Antithamnion cruciatum (C.Agardh) Nägeli.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pterothamnion antarcticum (Kylin) R.L.Moe & P.C.Silva.
