Type locality: Grscica, Korcula Island, Yugoslavia, Adriatic Sea; (Calderón-Sáenz & Schnetter 1989: (251), 259) Holotype (sporophytic thallus): P. Schmidt; July 1987; growing on (and within?) a fragment of a dead coralline alga; sample containing Valonia sp. and coralline algae, just below the water line; (Calderón-Sáenz & Schnetter 1989: (251), 259) Notes: Paratypes: gametophytes reared from isolated spores produced by the sporophytic, holotypic culture.
