The type species (holotype) of the genus Chylocladia is Chylocladia kaliformis (Goodenough & Woodward) Hooker.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Gastroclonium ovatum (Hudson) Papenfuss.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), oval, elliptical, i.e., broadest at the middle, the sides curved and length:breadth generally 2:1 (Stearn 1983).
