The type species (holotype) of the genus Thysanocladia is Thysanocladia dorsifera (C.Agardh) Harvey.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Callophycus harveyanus (J.Agardh) P.Silva.

Named for William Henry Harvey (1811-1866), Irish Botanist, collector and traveller.
