The type species (holotype) of the genus Thamnophora is Thamnophora corallorhiza (Turner) C.Agardh.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Plocamium telfairiae (W.J.Hooker & Harvey) Harvey ex Kützing.

Eponomy
