The type species (holotype) of the genus Spermothamnion is Spermothamnion turneri (Mertens ex Roth) Areschoug.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Tiffaniella codicola (Yamada & T.Tanaka) Doty & Meñez.
