Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Bangia is Bangia atropurpurea (Mertens ex Roth) C.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Erythrotrichia reflexa (P.Crouan & H.Crouan) Thuret ex De Toni.
