The type species (lectotype) of the genus Nitophyllum is Nitophyllum punctatum (Stackhouse) Greville.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Nienburgia serrata (Suhr) Papenfuss.

Type Information
Lectotype locality: Algoa Bay, Cape Province, South Africa; (Silva & al. 1996: 463) Notes: This type locality was first recorded by Papenfuss (1956a: 73).
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), serrated, saw-edged with teeth pointing forwards (Stearn 1983).
