Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Acanthophora spicifera (Vahl) Børgesen.
Type Information
Type locality: St Croix, Virgin Islands; (Vahl 1802: 44) Holotype: C; 1044 (Perrone et al 2006: 37) Notes: Herbarium: C? (Yoshida, 1998: 1006). According to de Jong et al. (1999: 138), the holotype (C 124/93 (nº 10)) is from Key West, Florida, but this appears to be an error (Huisman 2018: 482). The holotype consists of two dried specimens (a tetrasporophyte and a cystocarpic specimen).
