Type locality: "ad oras Novae Hollandiae" (Australia); (Agardh 1841: 24) Lectotype: herb. alg. Agardh, LD; 43036 (Millar 1990: 458) Notes: Lectotype in Herb. Agardh, LD, 43036; a small specimen in an envelope labelled "Polyzon. incisa J. Ag. in Linnaea" (Womersley, 2003: 320).

Participle A (Latin), cut into deeply and irregularly.
