The type species (holotype) of the genus Polyzonia is Polyzonia elegans Suhr.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dasyclonium incisum (J.Agardh) Kylin.

Participle A (Latin), cut into deeply and irregularly.
