Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Phormidium is Phormidium lucidum Kützing ex Gomont.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Laspinema etoshii (Dadheech, Casamatta, P.Casper & Krienitz) Heidari & Tauer.
