General Environment
This is a freshwater species.
Description
Thallus discoid, 100-200 µm in diameter, monostromatic except in the central part where it is multistromatic. Cells very small in young thalli (3-4 µm in diameter) reaching 8-10 µm in diameter in old thalli.
Key Characteristics
Besides the small sizes of cells, the species is characterized by the four-celled germlings with a cruciate arrangement.
