The type species (lectotype) of the genus Conferva is Conferva rupestris Linnaeus.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Boodlea composita (Harvey) F.Brand.

Type Information
Type locality: Cap Malheureux, Mauritius; (Harvey 1834: 157) Type: TCD; (Yoshida 1998: 81) Notes: According to Leliaert & Coppejans (2004: 202), the holotype (collected by Mrs Telfair s.n.) is in BM. Cap Malheureux is a small fishing village located on the northernmost tip of Mauritius.
