The type species (holotype) of the genus Lithothamnion is Lithothamnion muelleri Lenormand ex Rosanoff.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Neopolyporolithon reclinatum (Foslie) W.H.Adey & H.W.Johansen.
