Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Spermothamnion is Spermothamnion turneri (Mertens ex Roth) Areschoug.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Tiffaniella snyderae (Farlow) I.A.Abbott.
Type Information
Notes: Dawson (1962: 45) notes that the type is not specifically designated, and that it is represented by collections of Mrs. Snyder, Mrs. Bingham and Mr. Cleveland, in the Farlow Herbarium of Harvard University. He also notes that the type locality is not specifically designated: "Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, San Diego, California."

Named for Mrs M.S. Snyder, collector.
