Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Turbinaria turbinata (Linnaeus) Kuntze.

Type Information
Type locality: "in Americae rupibus marinis" [Jamaica]; (Silva & al. 1996: 715) Notes: Silva et al. (1996) recommend consulting Howe (1920: 591) for more information on the type locality of this species.
