According to Burrows (1991) this species is a synonym of Chaetomorpha linum (O. F. Müller ) Kützing. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
INA cites Chaetomorpha linum f. aerea (Dillwyn) Collins 1918. - (17 October 2016) - G.M. Guiry
According to Mystikou et al. (2016: 116), C. aerea has been treated as a synonym of Chaetomorpha linum by several authors (Burrows. 1991; John et al., 2003), but their actual relationship remains uncertain. They note that the genus requires taxonomic re-investigation and they tentatively attribute their specimen to C. aerea intil molecular investigations clarify its identity. - (17 October 2016) - G.M.
