The type species (holotype) of the genus Goniodoma is Goniodoma acuminatum (Ehrenberg) F.Stein.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Lingulaulax milneri (F.Stein) M.J.Head, K.N.Mertens & R.A.Fensome.
