Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Nemastoma is Nemastoma dichotomum J.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Gloiosiphonia californica (Farlow) J.Agardh.

Notes: Dawson (1953: 93) Type locality not specifically designated. Syntypes came from Santa Cruz and from Santa Barbara, California. Holotype not designated. Syntype collections by Dr. Anderson and by Miss Lennebacker are probably in the Farlow Herbarium, Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
