Type locality: "Beaufort Sea (71° 24' N, 132° 40' W) by D. Vaulot (15 August 2009)"; (Simon & al. 2017: 630) Notes: "Holotype: Cells of M. polaris strain RCC2306 preserved ina metabolically inactive state (cells embedded in resin for electron microscopy) have been deposited at the RCC."
