Nomenclatural note
Illegitimate: not Dinophysis ovum Schütt, 1895, but is dubiously valid. Supposedly based on Phalacroma ovum Schütt: "So far as these features are concerned, this species appears to be near akin to Phalacroma ( =Dinophysis) ovum of KOFOID & SKOGSBERG's (1928, Fig. 11 1, 3-4), but the former is more rotund than the latter. In addition, the former differs from the latter in the shape, height and the basal length of the left sulcal list. There has not been recorded any species of this form group, worthy to be discussed here, with the exception of Phalacroma acuta (SCHUTT)." (Abé 1967: 71). Phalacroma ovum Schütt appears to be an error for Phalacroma operculoides Schütt (1895: 90) [INA]. - (31 August 2018) - M.D. Guiry
