Nomenclatural note
Callophyllis chilensis, as reported from Japan by Okamura, represents Callophyllis okamurae P.C. Silva (q.v.); a new name for Pugetia japonica Kylin (q.v.) was necessary as Callophyllis japonica, as a name, was already occupied for a different entity (see Yoshida 1998: 751). Norris (1957: 297-298) inferred species relationships between Callophyllis chilensis, C. firma (q.v.) and P. japonica; however, Harper & Saunders (2002: 275) found that Callophyllis firma and Callophyllis chilensis were not related to Callophyllis in their phylogenetic trees and proposed the restoration of Pugetia chilensis [=C. okamurae] and P. firma Kylin. - (19 November 2021) - M.D. Guiry
