Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Acrochaetium is Acrochaetium secundatum (Lyngbye) Nägeli.

Type Information
Lectotype locality: Brown Island, Washington, U.S.A; (Abbott & Hollenberg 1976: 315) Type: on Sertularia at 10-20 m depth; (Abbott & Hollenberg 1976: 315) Notes: Dawson (1953: 29) notes type locality as vicinity of Friday Harbor, Washington (several localities indicated with the original description). According to Woelkerling & Womerlsey in Womersley (1994: 58) the type locality was not specified by Kylin (1925), who listed three localities near Friday Harbour, Washington, U.S.A.: Brown I., Shaw I. and Peavine Pass. They also note that the lectotype may be in LD.
