Barros-Barreto & al. (2023: 26) write, "This new species circumscribes a previously known taxon, widely distributed on the Brazilian coasts, usually identified as Ceramium brevizonatum var. caraibicum. Detailed morphology and distribution are shown in Barros-Barreto & Yoneshigue-Valentin (2001) and Barros-Barreto et al. (2006)."
