Taxonomic note
O'Kelly, Bellows & Wysor (2004) comment "O'Kelly and Floyd (1983) and Floyd & O'Kelly (1990) hypothesized that B. piliferum belongs to its own 'group' within the Ulvales. The molecular phylogeny supports this hypothesis, by recovering the families Ulvaceae and Ulvellaceae and robustly placing B. piliferum basal to both." - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
