Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Goniolithon is Goniolithon papillosum (Zanardini ex Hauck) Foslie.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Lithophyllum subtenellum (Foslie) Foslie.

Type Information
Syntype localities: "G. subtenellum has been found in different places on the coast of Algeria in company with L. incrustans, but apparently rather
scarse, Prof. F. Debray. Besides it has been taken at San Vicente de la Barquera (Spain) and at Guéthary (Basses Pyrenees), at the
last named place growing together with L. Lenormandi, L. Sonderi and Lithoph. incrustans, Prof. Camille Sauvageau."

Largest round box contains specimens and is marked with collection data and with ‘Lpm. subtenellum delvis [= in part]’. Smaller two round boxes (both empty) are marked with collection data. One also marked ‘Lithoph. subtenellum (L. incrustans og [= and] Lithoth. sonderi)’ and ‘præp. [= slide] 70’. Other also marked with pfa data and with ‘Lithoph. subtenellum delvis [= in part]’ and ‘anth. konc. [= antheridial conceptacles]’. Grouped with A2- 125 under one entry in Adey & Lebednik 1967: 17. Adey & Lebednik indicated that four boxes occurred, but only two were found during the present study]" (Woelkering et al. 2005: 38)."
