The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Cystophora moniliformis (Esper) Womersley & Nizamuddin.

Type Information
Type locality: ‘aus der Südsee’, (probably southern coast of Australia); (Silva & al. 1996: 646) Holotype: R. Brown; ER; (Womersley 1987: 370) Notes: Silva et al. (1996) recommend consulting Womersley (1964: 71-72) for more information on the type locality of this species. Womersley (1987: 370) cites the "south seas" (south coast of Australia) as the type locality.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), moniliform, cylindrical but contracted at regular intervals like a string of beads (Stearn 1983).
