The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Caulerpa racemosa (Forsskål) J.Agardh.

Taxonomic note
According to Belton et al. (2014: 50), F. clavifer Turner is illegitimate being a later homonym of F. clavifer Forrskal 1775. [The latter is not cited in INA]. They consider F. clavifer Turner, nom. illeg. and F. uvifer Turner, nom. illeg. to be synonyms of Caulerpa racemosa. - (01 April 2014) - G.M. Guiry
