Type locality: Vulcano Island (Aeolian Islands, Italy); (Cormaci & Furnari 1994: 22) Holotype: B. Scammacca; 24.4.1991; 22m; CAT; 1098 (Cormaci & Furnari 1994: 22) Notes: Holotype is monoecious gametophyte (Cormaci & Furnari, 1994).

Eponomy
Named for Elisa (or Elissa), the Latin name of the Queen of Carthage, otherwise known as Dido.

General Environment
This is a marine species.

Habitat
Epiphytic on Cystoseira spp. and Dictyota dichotoma at 5, 15 and 22 m depth (Cormaci & Furnari 1994: 22).

Nomenclatural note
"It should be noted that in INA (2023), Moe has arbitrarily changed the specific epithet elisae to eliseae. However, as stated by Cormaci & Furnari (op. cit.: 22 "ETIMOLOGY"), because the specific epithet is based on a well established latin name, the Rec. 73C.2 of ICBN (Greuter et al., 1988) was correctly applied; the same recommendation was maintained in the current ICN (Turland et al., 2018: Rec. 60C.1)."
