The type species (holotype) of the genus Gelidium is Gelidium corneum (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pterocladia heteroplatos (Børgesen) Umamaheswara Rao & Kaliaperumal.
