Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Erythrotrichia is Erythrotrichia ceramicola (Lyngbye) Areschoug.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Porphyrostromium ligulatum (Womersley) J.A.West & Zuccarello.

This is a marine species.
Habitat
Epiphytic on Heterozoa (drift), on Myriodesma harveyanum in the sublittoral fringe and on Codium fragile in pools (Womersley 1994: 30).
