The type species (holotype) of the genus Ectocarpus is Ectocarpus siliculosus (Dillwyn) Lyngbye.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Laminariocolax tomentosoides subsp. deformans (P.J.L.Dangeard) A.F.Peters.
