The type species (holotype) of the genus Schizymenia is Schizymenia dubyi (Chauvin ex Duby) J.Agardh.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Halymenia bullosa (Harvey) Huisman, Rodríguez-Prieto & Showe M.Lin.
