The type species (holotype) of the genus Dasya is Dasya pedicellata (C.Agardh) C.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Heterosiphonia australis (J.Agardh) De Toni.

Type locality: Port Jackson, New South Wales; (Womersley 1998: 485) Holotype: Harvey; Herb. Agardh, LD; 43630 (Womersley 1998: 485) Notes: Womersley (1998: 485) notes that the type specimen was collected by Harvey (Alg. Aust Exsicc. 211L, as Dasya subsecunda Suhr?).

Adjective (Latin), south, southern (Stearn 1983).
