Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Grateloupia is Grateloupia filicina (J.V.Lamouroux) C.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Chondracanthus squarrulosus (Setchell & N.L.Gardner) Hughey, P.C.Silva & Hommersand.

Johnston (no. 60); June ; Drift; CAS; 1368 (Setchell & Gardner 1924: 781) Notes: Type (a single large sterile specimen: UC CAS 1368); collected by Ivan M. Johnston on 28 June 1921; Isotypes: UC 221076, UC 483280 (Hughey & Hommersand 2008: 141). According to Setchell & Gardner, it probably grows at some depth below low tide.
