The type species (holotype) of the genus Dictyosphaerium is Dictyosphaerium ehrenbergianum Nägeli.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Mucidosphaerium pulchellum (H.C.Wood) C.Bock, Proschold & Krienitz.
