The type species (holotype) of the genus Fauchea is Fauchea repens (C.Agardh) Montagne & Bory.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Gloiocladia spinulosa (Okamura & Segawa) N.Sánchez & C.Rodríguez-Prieto.
