Taxonomic note
Day et al. (1995: 249) records this species as being a synonym of Batrachospermum suecicum. In the same work they record entries for ‘dense form’ and ‘open form’ which are all recorded as being synonyms of the same species. For simplicity the distribution of all three entities is recorded in this entry. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
