The type species (holotype) of the genus Navicula is Navicula tripunctata (O.F.Müller) Bory.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Geissleria acceptata (Hustedt) Lange-Bertalot & Metzeltin.

Type Information
Type locality: Germany: Oberohe, Lünerberger Heide (interglacial); (INA 1996) Type: BRM; N14/33 (INA 1996) Notes: Lectotype (fide Simonsen 1987: 359). Hustedt cited Salemer See (recent) but Simonsen could find no specimens (INA). Diatomaceous earth; collected by U. Rein and W. Selle (Novais et al., 2013).
