Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Navicula is Navicula tripunctata (O.F.Müller) Bory.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Navigeia modica (Hustedt) Bukhtiyarova.

Type locality: "Balkan: Ochrida-see, Prespa-See"; (INA 1996) Lectotype designated by Simonsen, 1987: slide no. N17/46: F. Hustedt; 01/09/1934; lime mud in lake; (Novais et al. 2013: table 2) Notes: northern part of Lake Ohrid, Macedonia (Novais et al., 2013: table 2). Paralectotype (epiphyte on Chara sp.) designated by Simonsen, 1987: slide no. N17/44 (Novais et al.).
