Taxonomic note
Staurosira construens Ehrenberg 1843 (Williams & Round, 1988 '1987'). Morales et al. (2015: 467) note that Smith (1856) believed that O tabellaria was previously described by Ehrenberg as Staurosira construens (Ehrenberg 1843: 424...) but they consider these to be two distinct taxa and the combination Staurosira tabellaria (W. Smith) Leudinger-Fortmorel 1878: 179 should be used. - (27 November 2015) - G.M. Guiry
