The type species (holotype) of the genus Tetrastrum is Tetrastrum heteracanthum (Nordstedt) Chodat.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Lemmermannia komarekii (Hindák) C.Bock & Krienitz.

(epitype) fish pond; (Bock & al. 2013: 339) Notes: fish pond at Petrová Ves; various other locs. in western Slovakia (INA).
