Nomenclatural note
According to INA, Discoplea comta Ehrenberg, the supposed basionym, is invalid: the name should be ascribed solely to Kützing. Cyclotella comta Kützing [sic] is listed in the ICN as "Cyclotella comta Kütz., Sp. Alg.: 20. 23-24 Jul 1849 [Bacillarioph.]. Typus: Germany, Hochsimmer am Rhein, Grunow 1298 (W) (typ. cons.)." so the name has a conserved type. - (15 November 2015) - M.D. Guiry
